It is believed that one of the reasons for Tiktok's growing popularity is due to the Covid epidemic, as roadblocks mean people are trapped at home for entertainment. By July this year, TikTok had been downloaded more than three billion times, according to data company Sensor Tower.
The social media platform, owned by a Chinese company called Bytedance, now has more than a billion active users worldwide, and that number continues to grow. In China, in compliance with the country's research laws, the application is called Douyin, and operates on a separate network. Douyin was originally released in September 2016. This year, China decided that users under the age of 14 would be limited to 40 minutes a day on the platform.
Safety concerns
TikTok was launched worldwide in 2018, after being integrated with another Chinese social media platform, Musical.ly, an app that allowed users to share their lip-matched videos on songs.
Social media is not uncommon with conflicts. In 2019, it was temporarily banned in India, a US counter-intelligence investigation and a fine record of £ 4.3m after it was discovered that Musical.ly deliberately handled content published to users under the age of 18. As one of the world's most successful Chinese applications, politicians and regulators outside of China have raised concerns about security and privacy. Last year TikTok was forced to deny that it was controlled by the Chinese government.
Theo Bertram, TikTok's head of public policy in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said he would reject any request from China for details. The app handles a variety of short videos, including genres such as comedy, dance and politics. In the UK, the most popular is make-up artist @abbyroberts with 17.4 million followers.
This year@Fransis.Bourgeois, who has 1.6 million followers, has resigned from his job to become a full-fledged railway operator due to his highly publicized videos on train stations talking about trains and having fun as they pass by.
It expands
Food videos and recipes have become an integral part of TikTok success, viral clips gaining millions of views. As a result, in the US, a new food delivery service called TikTok Kitchen will be launched in March, allowing people to order dishes created from anti-virus videos. The menu will be based on the app's most dangerous eating habits and will include courses such as baked pasta pasta that was listed as Google's highly searched 2021 meal. TikTok Kitchen is co-founded by Robert Earl, owner of US restaurants Planet Hollywood, Buca di Beppo and Bertucci's. He said about 300 TikTok restaurants are scheduled for launch nationwide, with more than a thousand expected by the end of 2022. The TikTok kitchen will serve at many of Mr. Earl's chain restaurants.
